Introducing Storytime Theatre: A New Youth-Focused Company in Ottawa

Storytime Theatre is officially launching in Ottawa, offering young performers an exciting new place to create, grow, and bring stories to life on stage. Built around the belief that theatre should be both meaningful and fun, Storytime Theatre is a youth-focused company dedicated to family-friendly productions performed by young artists. It’s a space where imagination takes the lead, confidence is built through creativity, and every student has the chance to find their spotlight.

A Theatre Company Built for Young Performers

Launched in 2026 by Sydney Williams (founder of the uOttawa Theatre Club), Storytime Theatre was created with one clear goal: to give youth a supportive environment where they can develop real performance skills while still enjoying the magic of theatre.

At Storytime Theatre, students won't be just memorizing lines, they'll learn how to collaborate, communicate, and tell stories in a way that feels exciting, expressive, and rewarding. From classic tales to imaginative adaptations, the company’s family-friendly productions are designed to be engaging for all ages, while giving young actors a meaningful theatre experience.

Two Programs Designed to Help Youth Grow

Storytime Theatre offers two distinct programs, depending on a student’s experience level and goals.

Development Program

This program is perfect for students who want to build their confidence and skills in a supportive setting. Participants work in small groups with experienced theatre instructors who emphasize fun and personal growth. The program includes:

  • Drama activities and acting exercises

  • Character-building and storytelling workshops

  • Small group development and feedback

  • A final showcase featuring solo work and a lead role in a short play

This program is ideal for youth who want to explore theatre without the pressure of a full production, making it ideal for new performers or those looking to master their craft.

Performance Group

For youth ready to take on more responsibility and challenge, the performance group operates like a traditional theatre company. This group focuses on producing high-quality shows with clear expectations for its members. Participants learn to:

  • Work as an ensemble and support a cast

  • Build commitment and discipline through rehearsal schedules

  • Strengthen performance technique and stage presence

  • Perform in a full-scale, family-friendly show

This program is best for youth who are ready to take theatre seriously and want a more professional experience.

Upcoming Auditions and Shows

Storytime Theatre’s first auditions will take place in September 2026, with the Fall production: The Snow Queen, a timeless and magical story that derives from the same classic tale as Disney's Frozen. Our Spring 2027 production will be announced soon.

Families who want to stay informed about auditions, shows, and upcoming programs are encouraged to join the Storytime Theatre mailing list for updates.
