A Message from our Artistic Director

Anyone who knows me would probably find this hard to believe, but I was a very shy kid. At the age of 7, my librarian signed me up to perform a poem in my hometown’s Festival of Performing Arts. That moment was the start of a beautiful relationship with theatre.
After moving to Ottawa from British Columbia, I founded the uOttawa Theatre Club in 2023 and, with the help of our incredible executive team, brought the club’s first eight productions to life. What I learned from this is there is a lack of shows designed for younger audiences. Now graduated and starting a new chapter, I’m thrilled to launch a long-time project of mine: a theatre organization for young performers that gives children the same opportunity I had, to perform on stage and discover their passion for theatre.
Welcome to Storytime Theatre. This is a welcoming and supportive space where young artists can strengthen their skills and explore their love for theatre. The skills learned in theatre are some of the most valuable skills anyone can gain, learning how to speak, build confidence, and command an audience. That’s the key to success, and success is what I want for all of my students, wherever they may end up.

From page to stage, this is
our story...
Storytime Theatre Company is a new youth-focused theatre organization based in Ottawa, created to give young performers a welcoming space to build confidence, creativity, and a love for the stage. Founded by Sydney Williams (founder of the uOttawa Theatre Club), Storytime Theatre was built on the belief that every child deserves the chance to perform, grow, and feel supported, whether they’re stepping on stage for the first time or ready for a bigger challenge.
Through family-friendly productions and skill-building programs, Storytime Theatre helps young artists strengthen their performance abilities while learning valuable life skills like teamwork, communication, and leadership. With opportunities ranging from beginner development classes to full-scale productions, Storytime Theatre is proud to be a new hub for youth performance in the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
